(6/9) Esoteric Glory of Modadrumdwip

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Nrisingha Palli, evening class
19 March 2019, part 6
Translated from Bengali

The island of Modadrumdwip is Ayodhya. In the past, when Lord Rama lived in exile, He came with Laksman and Sita Devi to this island. He constructed a house beneath a tree and stayed there for some time. One day, seeing various places of Nabadwip internally, Lord Raghunandan smiled gently. Sri Sita Devi noticed it and asked, 'Why are You smiling so much?' The Lord replied, 'O Sita, Daughter of King Janaka, this is a very confidential matter. When glorious Kali-yuga comes, the souls of this world will behold Me here in Nadia as Gaura of golden hue. I will soon take birth as Gauranga, appearing from the womb of Sachi Devi in the home of Jagannath Misra. I will give the treasure of divine love to those fortunate souls who will behold My childhood pastimes. Dear, at that time, I will perform My pastimes of scholarship and reveal the glories of My Name. Later, I will take sannyas and go to Nilachal. My mother will embrace My wife and weep.' Hearing this explanation, Sita Devi asked, 'O lotus-eyed One, why will You make Your mother cry? Why will You take sannyas leaving Your home? What joy is there for You in making Your wife cry? What does that give You?' Lord Sri Rama replied, 'Dear Sita Rani, you know everything, but you are asking Me this, desiring to hear the answer from My mouth, so that the whole world can know this. I will tell you. Divine loving devotion to Me is relished in two ways: the happiness of being together with Me is called union; and the happiness of being apart from Me is called separation.'

Mahaprabhu, Srila Raghunath Das Goswami, Srila Rupa Goswami, Srila Sanatan Goswami and others relished the divine mood of separation from the Lord. When Vraja gopis lamented, longing for Krishna, crying and feeling so much pain, they said, 'Krishna, You are making us cry so much. You will also have to cry like that come Kali-yuga! When You appear in Kali-yuga taking Radharani's heart and halo, You will also cry and lament, "O Krishna!"'

Lord Ramachandra said also, 'When devotees, who are My eternal associates, desire to be together with Me, they, overpowered by My grace, experience divine separation. Devotees know that the sorrow they feel when they are longing for Me is actually the highest happiness.' There is much more happiness in separation than in union. When you describe the Lord's qualities, when you speak about the Lord, when you reveal His glory, you will feel happiness. Union arises at the end of separation, and the happiness of such union becomes millions of times greater. This strong happiness is due to being separated from Me. Accept this. All four Vedas say this as well. In My incarnation as Gauranga, Mother Kausalya will become Sachi Devi. She is also glorified as Aditi in the Vedas. You will serve Me as Vishnupriya. Separated from Me, you will make My Deity and preach in this world about Me (about Gauranga). Separated from You, I will make your golden Deity and worship you in the city of Ayodhya; and you, in return, will make My Deity (Deity of Gauranga) and worship Me in the city of Nadiya. All these things are extremely confidential, they are not to be revealed to the public at present. This Nabadwip is very dear to Me, it cannot even compare to Ayodhya or any other place. Dear Sita, when Kali-yuga comes, this banyan tree, Rama-vata, will disappear, remaining here in a concealed way.'

In this way, Lord Rama, together with Sita Devi and Laksman, stayed here during some time. After that, they went to the forest Dandaka to continue their pastimes. Lord Nityananda Prabhu told devotees, 'You can see the cottage of Lord Rama at this place. By the wish of the Lord, Lord Rama's friend Guhaka was born in this place in the family of a brahman and was known as Sadananda Vipra Bhattacharya. He did not know anything or anyone except Lord Rama in the entire three worlds. The day when the Lord was born in Mayapur, Sadananda Vipra was at the house of Jagannath Misra. At the time of the Lord's birth, many demigods came to take darshan of Jagannath Misra's son. As the result of his great spiritual practices, the brahman was able to recognise those demigods, so he understood that the Lord had taken birth at the house. Feeling very intrigued, he then returned to his house. When he meditated upon his worshippable Deity, he suddenly saw Sri Gauranga-sundar. Seated on a throne, Sri Gauranga Ray was being fanned by Brahma and many other great personalities and demigods.'

This island of Modadrumdwip is also known as the forest Bhandirvan of Vrindavan. So, this is the glory of Modadrumdwip.

Vaishnav Etiquette
'Even if your enemy comes to your house from far away, you must at least give them some prasad, some sweet rice, some Tulasi, water, and talk to them sweetly.'

Illusory environment means we are covered by an illusory net and we forget everything. Overcoming this illusory environment will depend on the quality of our surrender.
