Today is the ananda-mahotsav (great, joyous festival) of Sri Jagannath Misra. When you have a child born in your house, you arrange for a sasthi festival six days later, you celebrate the birth. There are various celebrations observed when a child is born, and Sri Jagannath Misra arranged a festival on this day today. He distributed many gifts to brahmans and everybody else. But how did he do it? He was a poor man, but he gave thousands of cows as gifts for brahmans. How is it possible? When Mahaprabhu appeared yesterday, so many people came to their house and brought so many gifts. You can see here also that people brought various items according to their capacity – many people brought fruit, this is how we have got so much fruit, especially apples, for you all to take prasad.

It is necessary to understand this. There is no lack of anything for gods and goddesses – they have so many things in heaven. But even those gods and goddesses, who live for one kalpa (4.32 billion years) enjoying all kinds of happiness, long to come to Krishna. So many gods and goddesses came yesterday from heaven to Mayapur, coming to all the places where festivals are held. They come taking all kinds of disguise. You may have heard yesterday us chant about this in the kirtan. Many demigods came disguised as brahmans and brahmanis and brought so many gifts and presentations for the Lord. Advaita Acharya and Srivas Pandit also sent many things. So, today, Sri Jagannath Misra distributed all those gifts to everybody.

We must call Mahaprabhu, we must love Him, we must have affection for Him and we must serve His devotees. It was Mahaprabhu's order for all householder devotees that not a single day shall pass without chanting the Holy Name and without vaisnav-seva. How can you serve Vaishnavs when you are at home? If you read Vaishnavs' scriptures, this is also service to Vaishnavs. If you think about Vaishnavs and devotees, that is also service to Vaishnavs.

You danced and chanted so much kirtan yesterday, you observed the festival happily – you must remember all this. Always keep your attention, keep your focus on this. That is our request to you all. I cannot say that this is my order to you, but I am requesting you to please do that. Do not forget all this. Always practise spiritual life, from the early morning until the end of the day. Do not waste your time on idle talks. Idle talks means talking nonsense – saying things that there is no need to say. Only speak when it is necessary.
