(5/6) What Is Your Greatest Joy?

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Jagannath Mishra's Anandotsav,
10 March 2020, morning, Sri Nrisingha Palli
Part 5, translated from Bengali

You sang many things in the kirtan yesterday, but do you understand the meaning of everything that you sang? You must always try to know the glory of kirtans. Many of those who took initiation yesterday do not know these things. We sing in the 'Bhaja bhakata-vatsala' kirtan:

যশোমতী-আজ্ঞা পেয়ে ধনিষ্ঠা-আনীত ।
শ্রীকৃষ্ণপ্রসাদ রাধা ভুঞ্জে হয়ে প্রীত ॥

yasomati-ajnapeye dhanistha anita
sri-krsna-prasada radha bhunje haye prita

"Being requested by Yasoda, Dhanistha brings Sri Krishna's remnants to Radha, who eats them joyfully."

(Bhoga Arati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

You all sing these lines, but many of you do not understand the meaning of the word 'dhanistha'. Dhanistha is the name of one Vraja gopi – Mother Yasoda orders her to take Krishna's prasad away and give it to Radharani. I gave one of the devotees this name, Dhanistha... So, try to understand the meaning of the kirtans that we sing – if you sing them understanding their meaning, you will feel very happy.

I feel very sad because somebody left yesterday saying that his daughter-in-law was going to deliver a baby. I told him, 'Your son is there, there are other people at home also. What will you do there if you come?' Because his daughter-in-law had to give birth to the baby yesterday, he ran back home. You must understand this:

বিষয়ে যে প্রীতি এবে আছয়ে আমার ।
সেই মত প্রীতি হউক চরণে তোমার ॥
বিপদে সম্পদে তাহা থাকুক সমভাবে ।

visaye ye priti ebe achhaye amara
sei-mata priti hauk charane tomara
vipade sampade taha thakuk samabhave

"May I have the same affection and attraction to your feet that I now have for material things. May my love for You not waver at bad times and at good times."

(Gitavali, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

When he had got a son (yesterday), Jagannath Misra gave so many gifts to people. He gave ten thousand cows to brahmans. Even when somebody gave something to Jagannath Misra, he distributed it again to everyone. People brought so much gold, money and other things for the service to the Lord, but Jagannath Misra distributed everything among people.

We must remember that there is no greater joy (ananda) than this. The biggest happiness in this world is that Gaura Hari accepted Sachi Mata as His mother and appeared from her womb like an ordinary child.

We must always think about it: what is our greatest happiness? You cannot understand this, but Mahaprabhu, Bhagavan Gaura Hari, appeared from Sachi Mata, but the Lord appears eternally and He exists eternally, but we cannot see it. We could not see with our eyes that a child was born yesterday. We could not see Sachi Mata, but some fortunate souls can see it.

অধ্যাপিহ সেই লীলা করে গোরা-রায় ।
কোন কোন ভাগ্যবানে দেখিবারে পায় ॥

adyapiha sei lila kare gora raya
kona kona bhagyavane dekhibare paya

'Gora Ray continues performing His Pastimes, and those who are fortunate can see it.'

So many demigods – 330,000,000 demigods – came here, they could see that Nimai appeared at the house of Jagannath Misra, from the womb of Mother Sachi. We sang in the kirtan yesterday that the baby was named Nimai because He appeared under a neem tree that ghosts and other evil spirits were afraid of. So, to make sure that no ghosts or spirits disturbed Him, they called Him Nimai.

Tolerance vs. Chastity
'When you have that kind of love and affection to your Guru, Deity, and Vaishnavs, at that time there are no rules and regulations. Humility, tolerance, giving honour to others is the rule, but when you see there is some problem, it is not the time for tolerance.'

If you give a bucket of stool to a pig, it will be so happy, 'Oh, I am taking nectar!'
So, you take this 'nectar' and do parikrama, rounding the material worlds, taking birth
and death, birth and death, and eating so many bad things... And the life is wasted.

"HUMILITY, TOLERANCE, GIVING HONOUR TO OTHERS | HUMILITY, TOLERANCE, GIVING HONOUR TO OTHERS"
