Every year, ** asks me to come here, but I did not realise how close in Kolkata this place is. Anyhow, I have come here after a long time, and I have not seen ** for a long time, too. This year, we did not go to Puri or Vrindavan because of the pandemic situation. So, when ** came to a preaching programme and again called me to come, I promised to come. There were also two programmes recently, yesterday and the day before yesterday. I go to different places for preaching, so I told ** that I would come here since it is so close by.

I have come here after a long time. I could not come when **'s husband was alive and could not attend his last rites when he passed away. I know that ** arranged some vaishnav-seva on that occasion, and we can only hope that we can come for vaishnav-seva (to come to serve Vaishnavs) because 'Vaisnavera guna-gana karile jivera trana (বৈষ্ণবের গুণ-গান করিলে জীবের ত্রাণ) – singing the glories of the Vaishnavs rescues and protects the jiva soul.' He was a very candid, simple man. I saw him when he travelled with us. He did not need or want much, he only said, 'I do want anything. I just want you to come to my house some time.' When he came with us to Puri, Vrindavan or Nabadwip Dham, he never showed any ego or anger, even when there was some hardship. Not everybody has this kind of fortune to do these dham-parikiramas, it is necessary to have desire and to make some effort.

Vaishnavs and devotees do not come to everyone's houses. Some people live in ten-storey or fifty-storey houses, and when sadhus come to their door to give them a book, they will not even open the door. They are proud of their money, wealth, family and friends, knowledge, good qualities, bodily beauty, and they cannot come out of this pride. The sun rises in the east, but if there is a wall in some place, the sunlight will not come there (it will be blocked by the wall). So, we all have such walls within us – they are the walls of ego. Just as the sunlight cannot enter a place that is blocked by a wall, devotees cannot set their foot into the houses of proud people and cannot stay in the hearts of such people. 'Bhaktera hrdaye sada govinda-visrama (ভক্তের হৃদয়ে সদা গোবিন্দ-বিশ্রাম). Govinda always rests in the heart of His devotees.'

** hesitated, 'Will I be able to do this vaishnav-seva? I do not have anything at home...' If you think about the Lord, if you want to offer bhog to the Lord and serve His prasad to devotees, the Lord will arrange everything. You are offering bhoga to the Lord, so the Lord will arrange for bhoga Himself. It is necessary to have such faith. You are inviting Vaishnavs and want to give the Lord's prasad to them, but who will provide everything for that? The Lord Himself. We have no power to do this. We must think, 'I should have no ego. I cannot do anything. The Lord will provide everything.' If the Lord arranges it, then it is possible. Do not worry that you are inviting twenty, fifty, a hundred or two hundred people. Give up everything to Him. We merely try, and the Lord will do the rest. You must remember this.
