Beware Imitation

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham, morning class
15 February 2019, part 5

Srila Narottam Das Thakur explained the glories of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu very nicely, and we sing about it in the kirtan every day. Also, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur told very nicely that if we follow Srila Narottam Das Thakur, we can get some understanding about the glories of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu.

There is anusaran and anukaran. If you follow what Gurudev told you, this is anusaran, and if you want to do the same pastime of Krishna showed, this is anukaran, imitation.

So, if you follow Narottam Das Thakur's advice, this is good, but if you think you want to do what Narottam Das Thakur did, if you want to become Narottam, then it is a very big problem. Do not imitate Nityananda Prabhu.

We sing also,

'আমি ত' বৈষ্ণব', এ বুদ্ধি হইলে
অমানী না হ'ব আমি ।
প্রতস্ঠাশা আসি', হৃদয় দূষিবে
হইব নিরয়গামী

"ami ta' vaisnava," e buddhi haile,
amani na ha'ba ami
pratisthasa asi', hrdaya dusibe,
haiba niraya-gami

"If I think, 'I am a Vaishnav,' then I will never stop expecting honour from others (I will never become void of the desire for honour). If desire for name and fame pollutes my heart, I will go to hell."

(Kalyan-kalpataru, Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

If I think that I have become a Vaishnav, it means I desire pratistha, name and fame—if such desire comes, we will have to go to hell (niraya-gami).

How to See the Guru:
Chastity
The main quality of a sincere disciple in several examples: one-pointed attention, rejecting the unfavourable, intense attachment to service and devotees, faith, and careful choice of association.

Janama saphala ta'ra
'Krishna is expert at play in Vrindavan. He wears a forest garland, poses bent in three places, and plays the flute perfectly. He is a reservoir of rasa and possesses all qualities.'
জনম সফল তা'র

We always search for fault in others, but we do not think that we have our own faults—our ego is our problem.
