Many of you are sitting here now. Our festival is going to continue tomorrow, so it is necessary to cut vegetables. I know that everybody is tired. I also lost my voice and thought that I would not be able to come and give the class – I could not speak at all. But I took some hot water with salt and came. Nityananda Prabhu gave his mercy, and I am able to speak now. So, please go and help cut the vegetables. There is only cabbage and potato to cut. You all must take prasad tomorrow in the morning, so please go and help them, do some service. Many are leaving tomorrow, so it will not be so much cooking after that.

Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur sings:

কবে জীবে দয়া, হইবে উদয়,
নিজ সুখ ভুলি' সুদীন-হৃদয় ।

kabe jive daya, haibe udaya,
nija sukha bhuli' sudina-hrdaya

'When will compassion for all souls arise in Bhaktivinod? When will he forget his own happiness?'

When will we be able to do good for others? There are many missions in this world that say, 'Jive prema kare yei jana sei jana sevichhe isvara (জীবে প্রেম করে যেই জন সেই জন সেবিছে ঈশ্বর). Love God by loving others.' But what does it actually mean to do good onto others? Srila Prabhupad said that you can treat a patient, but there is no guarantee that that patient will recover and will not do something bad; or you can give a blanket to a poor man, but there is no guarantee that after some time the man will not come and ask you for another blanket. Genuine good is what Vaishnavs give. Mercy, or kindness, to souls does not mean giving anybody money, clothes, and so on – these things can only give temporary help; but if you can practise Hari-bhajan, that will give you some valuable, permanent benefit. For example, there are ministers who give money to the poor – they help thousands of people – but have they brought even one person to the right path? People spend so much money on charity, but what use is that? But those who distribute Hari-katha in this world never concern themselves with such things because those who promote charity only think about the body and about temporary happiness in this world – they do not think about the actual benefit for the soul.

The soul is a particle of the Lord, but people compare the soul to the mind. They say, 'Do whatever pleases your soul, 'Eat whatever pleases your soul.' But the soul wants to serve Supersoul. The soul knows what Supersoul wants. Therefore, if you bring genuine benefit to another jiva soul, then that jiva soul's desires will be removed – they will be pleased with whatever is necessary to keep their body and soul together, not more than that. They need something to serve the Lord and to keep their body and soul together, so they will be content with the basic requirements, they will not want anything more than that. 'Visaya-visama-visa satata khainu, Gaura-kirtana rase magana na hainu (বিষয়-বিষম-বিষ সতত খাইনু গৌরকীর্ত্তন রসে মগন না হইনু). I have always been taking the deathly poison of the material life and never felt attached to the ecstasy of Gaura's kirtan.' We only keep taking the deathly poison of material life and we never become immersed in the nectar of Gaura's kirtan.

We must seek the help of a right doctor, who can give benefit to your soul and bring you to the Lord...
