His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Nrisingha Palli, evening class
15 March 2019, translated from Bengali, part 6

It is those who are fortunate that come. Only a fortunate jiva soul can do this parikrama, can serve the Lord. We have forgotten about this, we have forgotten the Lord... Even if you do not get time to chant the Holy Name, but when you go to the bathroom, you sit there for twelve-fifteen minutes. The body does its job, but you can chant the Holy Name at that time. When you go to the toilet, when you take bath, chant the Holy Name. I also do that.

When we went to Nepal in January this year, it was winter time. When you breathe, vapour comes out, you can see snow on the Himalayas from there, and the water there was ice cold. When I went to the bathroom, I took the Holy Name and poured water on myself, and when I came back to the room they would forcefully put so many clothes on me to keep me warm that I would feel hot. We will go there again with devotees. You do not need a visa to go to Nepal, you can easily go there with the Indian passport. There are temples of Muktinath and Pashupatinath. Lord Krishna gave Lord Siva the weapon called pasupat there. Krishna also fought against Sivji Maharaj...

[A devotee asks something.]

Who says this? This is not written in any scriptures. Actually, we cannot see anything, we only do parikrama. You can see Srila Prabhupad's words written at the back of the new book, Sri Puri Dham Mahatmya-Mukta-Mala:

"Sri Jagannath is not an object to be seen; Jagannath is the Seer. When the soul gives up the ego of the seer and becomes fully established in the ego of an object of Jagannath’s vision or the pure original form of being an object of enjoyment, it then acquires service temper and can attain the darshan of Lord Jagannath through the eyes of divine love and service temper.

"For as long as we think that we will see Jagannath, we will not be able to see Him, but rather we will only always see wood, stone, an enjoyable idol maimed by the impersonal or historical accounts; and when we can know with all our heart and soul that He will see me, that we are materials for His enjoyment, and there is no covering of our own pleasure when it comes to His enjoyment, that He is absolutely independent and acts as He pleases, then only will Jagannath reveal Himself to us."

We go to the holy dham, but not to see it—we go to serve the dham. We do not go to a holy place to enjoy or for sightseeing, we must think, "Krishna is the enjoyer, Krishna is the master. Jagannath will see me." Do we have the eyes to see Jagannath? If I think, "I will see Jagannath," then instead of Jagannath I will only see a wooden or stone idol. These are Srila Prabhupad's words. Always remember this.

Wake up for mangal arati and get Tulasi neck beads from the shop, wear it. I am telling it for your benefit. Do you understand it? I am constantly only thinking about your benefit—day and night, sometimes foregoing eating and sleeping, I go everywhere and make so much effort just so that you, who are born in this Bharata-bhumi (India), may know the Lord, may know and understand Mahaprabhu. I am thinking about your benefit—I want you to get some benefit, some love and attachment to the Lord, to the Lord's service, I want you to serve the Lord in some way. This is what I take all the great pains for.

Otherwise, we always worry what we will eat, what we will wear, what we will know or think—we always worry about this body, but we do not realise our true purpose. Our true purpose, or identity, is that we are atma, a jiva soul. We must think about the benefit of the soul, but we worry about the body all the time—what the body will eat, what the body will wear, where the body will sleep. How much time do we spend thinking about the Lord? We only think about this body, and we are not able to think about ourselves, but it is possible. When the soul leaves this fleshy body, it will be kept for one or two days and then it will start to rot.

We worry about this body thinking where we will eat, what we will wear, where we will get nice food, some even go quickly first and hide some rotis for themselves... Will you die if you do not eat roti for one day? I do not always eat rotis in the evening too, and when I went for preaching I ate rice three times a day—I did not tell anything to anyone. I am diabetic, and the doctor told me to eat rice only once a day, but they gave me rice in the morning, at noon and in the evening, and I did not tell anything to anyone. When I stay in Kolkata, I take some roti from a shop to balance my blood sugar, I do not tell them to make any vegetables for me or anything. I take some roti, sometimes some sugar if my blood sugar is low, then I take medicine and go to bed...

What Are You Hiding In Your Heart?
'Living in a family is not a problem, but the family must be Krishna's family. A phalgu-vairagi shows he is a renunciate, shows he is a sannyasi, but inside, in his heart, he has another desire. Prabhupad Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur told one story..'
