(11/11) Mahaprabhu's Advent
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
emana durmati, samsara-bhitare, '(O Lord!) I have fallen into this vile material world...' (Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) 'O Lord! I am so wretched that I am still living in the bondage of this material world...' You must sing this with all your hearts. These words should come from your hearts.
(prabhu he!) '(O Lord!) I have fallen into this vile material world, but You have sent a great soul, Your associate, to me.'
daya kari more, patita dekhiya, 'Seeing me so fallen, he took pity on me and came to me, saying: "Poor soul, listen to this good news, it will make your heart rejoice.
tomare tarite, sri-krsna-chaitanya, '"Sri Krishna Chaitanya has appeared in Nabadwip to deliver you! He has already taken many poor souls like you to the shore of the ocean of material existence."' Who is the boatman who will take us across the Viraja river? The Lord Himself. But to cross this river, it is necessary to pay the fare. You cannot pay this fare with any amount of money, wealth, cars or houses – that fare is devotion to the Lord. If you have devotion, if you can serve and worship the Lord with devotion, then this capital will take you across to the spiritual world. If you want to earn devotion, you do not do it through any material activities, knowledge or mystic powers. If some averse soul somehow, by some fortune, becomes disposed to the service of the Lord, it becomes conscious of Lord Krishna and then Maya Devi slowly runs away from it. ‘Krsna-bahirmukha jivera nahi Krsna-smrti-jnana (কৃষ্ণবহির্ম্মুখ জীবের নাহি কৃষ্ণস্মৃতি-জ্ঞান). The souls who are averse to Krishna have no knowledge or remembrance of Krishna’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.20.123).
brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva ‘Having travelled throughout the universe, some fortunate souls receive the seed of the devotional creeper by the mercy of Sri Guru, who is non-different from Krishna.’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.19.151) If some fortunate soul receives, by the mercy of the guru, the seed of the devotional creeper and, taking all possible care of it, can turn this seed into a beautiful wish-fulfilling tree, then that soul will be able to taste the nectar of its fruit.
vedera pratijna, rakhibara tare, 'To fulfil the promise of the Vedas, He has appeared as a son of a brahman, possessing beautiful golden complexion. Together with His brother Nityananda, Mahaprabhu has driven all Nadia mad with the Holy Name of Lord Krishna.' When Krishna came to Imlitala and was sitting on the bank of the Yamuna, He wondered,
sri-radhayah pranaya-mahima kidrso vanayaiva- ‘‘What is the glory of Sri Radha’s love? What extraordinary sweetness does She see in Me? What happiness does She feel when She is moved by Me?’ – yearning to taste these three sentiments, the moon Krishna-chandra arose from the ocean of Mother Sachi’s womb.’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.1.6) ‘Why does Radharani cry so much taking My Name? What kind of happiness does She feel serving Me?’ – to taste Her ecstatic devotion, Supreme Lord Sri Krishna comes in Kali-yuga. When Krishna went to Dvaraka leaving all the gopis crying for Him, they promised, 'When Kali-yuga comes, You too will have to cry!' During the last six years of His pastimes, the Lord stayed in Gambhira and showed exclusive innermost pastimes (vipralamba-lila) of the agony of separation. Gambhira is the room burning ablaze with divine separation. He could not live without Krishna, so He would cry, 'Where am I to go to find Kanu? How can I see Him?' You can find the description of those pastimes in Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita. When the Lord promised, 'I will come,' at that time Radharani also said, 'I will come, too.' To assist the Lord's pastimes, She comes to this world as well. Along with Them came all the Vraja gopis and all Their friends that played in Their pastimes in Dvapar-yuga.
sri-krsna-chaitanya prabhu jive daya kari’ ‘Bestowing mercy on jiva souls, Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu descends with His associates and abode.’ (Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) The Lord advents in this world together with His associates. If you see the meaning of the kirtans, you can actually find there everything.
vedera pratijna, rakhibara tare, 'To fulfil the promise of the Vedas, He has appeared as a son of a brahman, possessing beautiful golden complexion. Together with His brother Nityananda, Mahaprabhu has driven all Nadia mad with the Holy Name of Lord Krishna.' So, to fulfil His promise, He comes in disguise of a brahman's son. And Balaram comes as Nitai to assist Him. In Krishna's pastimes, Balaram serves Krishna as His elder brother, and in Kali-yuga, He comes as Nityananda and also serves Mahaprabhu just as His elder brother. In Vrindavan, Balaram is generally called Dauji (Elder Brother).
nanda-suta yini, chaitanya gŏsani, 'Chaitanya Gosani, who is Krishna (the son of Nanda) Himself, has freely distributed His own Name. He has already saved the whole world – you, too, must come and be delivered.'
se katha suniya, asiyachhi natha, 'O Master! Hearing this, I have come to Your holy feet. Weeping, Bhaktivinod is now telling his story.' (Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)
