Why did you need to make this fence here? Everybody can come, so open it. Even if the house is small or just a tin shed, what is the problem? You can live in a mud house, in a mud room and be happy. Even our bodies are made from soil and will enter soil after death. So, what is the problem if you have a mud house. It is not necessary to have fancy, glittery arrangements. The Lord does not like all this. When the Lord went to Vidura's house, He ate banana skin! You can see Sudama Vipra's situation also – the Lord made him struggle in life, but the Lord also gave him happiness. 'Dinere adhika daya karen Bhagavan (দীনেরে অধিক দয়া করেন ভগবান্). The Lord is more merciful to the poor and humble.' Always remember this. The Lord bestows mercy on the poor.

Gurudev said that if you can serve with everything you have (with all your heart and soul), then you are certain to come to the Lord. What is the property of gurudev? Great buildings? Temples? No. Gurudev's property and wealth is love and affection. If you can get gurudev's love and affection, this is a very great attainment. Great buildings, temples, houses, cars are nothing.

[His Divine Grace notices a naughty child] Children will always talk, what can you do? Can they understand anything? These are all hard topics... Do you study Sanskrit at school? Do you go to school? You must study well. You must learn to study. The main thing in education and studying is service to the Lord. Even if you become very learned, a great scholar, a great poet, a great politician, a big scientist, professor, doctor or anybody else, the root of all knowledge is service to the Lord. Whatever you do, your main priority should be to chant the Holy Name of the Lord. Without that, there is no sense in anything.

Do not criticise anybody. Do not gossip about others, do not criticise others. Do not waste your time. Always remember this.

গ্রাম্যকথা না শুনিবে, গ্রাম্যবার্ত্তা না কহিবে ।
ভাল না খাইবে আর ভাল না পরিবে ॥
অমানী মানদ হঞা কৃষ্ণনাম সদা ল'বে ।
ব্রজে রাধাকৃষ্ণ সেবা মানসে করিবে ॥

gramya-katha na sunibe, gramya-varta na kahibe
bhala na khaibe ara bhala na paribe
amani manada hana krsna-nama sada la’be
vraje radha-krsna seva manase karibe

‘Do not listen to village talks, do not speak about village news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Do not expect honour from others, give all respect to others. Always chant the Holy Name of Krishna and serve Radha-Krishna in your mind.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 3.6.236–237)

Always serve Sri Sri Radha-Krishna in your mind, in your heart. Do not talk village talks, do not gossip, do not criticise anybody.

There are many people who take shelter of ancestral gurus (kula-gurus) or bogus gurus (asat-gurus), but they do not get spiritual benefit. If you want to get spiritual benefit, you must take exclusive shelter of a bona fide guru. Whatever your situation is, wherever you live, always chant the Holy Name of the Lord. ‘Grhe thaka, vane thaka, sada “Hari” bale’ daka (গৃহে থাক, বনে থাক, সদা হরি বলে’ ডাক). Whether you live in a house or in a forest, always call out to the Lord (always chant the Lord’s Name)’ (Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur). If you can serve the Lord whatever situation you find yourselves in, you will get benefit. So, wherever you are, whatever your situation is, always serve the Lord with sincerity and unswerving determination.

হরের্নাম হরের্নাম হরের্নামৈব কেবলম্ ।
কলৌ নাস্ত্যেব নাস্ত্যেব নাস্ত্যেব গতিরন্যথা ॥

harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha

‘Chanting the Holy Name, chanting the Holy Name, chanting the Holy Name – there is no other way, no other way, no other way.’

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.7.76)

There is no other way in Kali-yuga except chanting the Holy Name of the Lord.
