(7/11) Maintained by the Lord His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Dainya means humility. You must feel, 'Prabhu, I am always your servant. I surrender at your feet.' Atma-nivedana means surrender – throw yourself at gurudev's holy feet. The Lord hears the prayers of those who surrender in all six ways. The third limb of surrender is goptrtve varan: Krishna is the protector, Krishna is the maintainer. Krishna takes care of everyone. We say that our parents are our guardians, but if they are our guardians, then why do they die? Some children have no parents, but they also survive. Sometimes, there can be an earthquake and thousands of people die – people search the place and cannot find anyone alive, and those who get to hospital die within a week. And a week later, somebody discovers a small baby under the debris, and the baby is unharmed. The baby's parents are dead, but how does the baby survive?... It happened in Mayapur also. There was a flood in 2000. A boat sank, and the whole family (parents, aunts, brothers, sisters, etc.) died, but their half-year-old baby survived – it found some straw floating in the water and climbed on top of it. Then, somebody found the baby and rescued it. The Lord saved the baby. So, the Lord kills and the Lord protects. The Lord gives us some happiness, but He may also not give it, and He can also give happiness and then take it away. The Lord can give you a son, but He can also take this son away from you. We must always to what the Lord says and to the narratives about the Lord. We must think about Him. Do not forget Him. The Lord does everything in this world, but we forget Him. You appear in this world because of Him, but you think, 'No, I appeared because of my parents!' This is a misconception. Parents only give us this body, but they do not give us that which we are (they have not given us our soul). If our parents gave us our souls, they would be able to stop it from leaving the body, but they cannot do that. We are souls, we are not these bodies. Our parents give us this body – these hands, legs, eyes, nose, and so on; but they do not give us that which we are. They do not create us (they do not give us our soul, our life force), they only give us a body. But we forget this... For example, I am wearing these clothes today, this is a cover of the body, but trees or cows live naked – nobody gives them clothes. Some people actually dress their cats and dogs, and they make passports for their dogs to travel on planes. I saw it when I was abroad... We come to this world without anything and we will leave taking nothing with us. Then why are you so proud of your money, family, beauty, merits? 'My house', 'my home', 'my family' – why are you so affectionate and attached to all this? Why are you so proud? 'Ahankare matta haiya, Nitai-pada pasariya, asatyere satya kari mani (অহঙ্কারে মত্ত হৈঞা নিতাই-পদ পাসরিয়া অসত্যেরে সত্য করি' মানি): becoming mad with pride, I forgot Nitai's feet and accept untruth as truth!' (Srila Narottam Das Thakur). You take untruth for truth! You think, 'This is my house!' No, it is not your house. It is the Lord's house. The Lord has made some arrangement, that is why you are staying in it. But you think, 'This is my house!', 'This is my home!', 'This is my son!', 'This is my family!'
শ্মশানে শরীর মম পড়িয়া রহিবে ।
smasane sarira mama padiya rahibe 'My body will be left at a crematorium, and birds and insects will heartily enjoy it.' (Sri Kalyan-kalpataru, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) We take much care to dress this body, but when it is thrown at the crematorium, hordes of insects, worms, ants, and bugs, will enter its eyes, ears and nose and start feasting on it. Nobody will save it then. And if your body is thrown into the Ganges, it will get stuck at some place and dogs and jackals will start fighting over it. Sometimes, I pass some meat markets when driving down the road and I see people queuing and fighting over who will buy the meat first and who will get what piece. At this time, I think that those people fight over it like dogs and jackals that come to fight over some dead dog on the street. Such are the people in this world. I have also heard from devotees who lived in China that in China, people eat dogs' meat, and they eat fried cockroach, lizards, snakes and frogs cooked in the same way as we make fried eggplant. That is their savouries. They eat raw pork also, it is one of the their favourite foods. You all also ate all these things in previous lives. But it is said in the scriptures that every action has equal and opposite reaction. This is also known as Newton's second law. What does it mean? If you kill somebody in this life, it will come to kill you in the next life or the life after that – and you will become a chicken.
