(3/11) Immerse Yourself in Hari-Kirtan

You must practise Krishna consciousness. Srila Prabhupad said, 'You can open thousands of hospitals and serve thousands of patients, but if you can bring just one averse-to-the-Lord soul to this path, it is a million times higher.' There is coronavirus (COVID-19) now, and millions of people are dying. Scientists have invented a vaccine against it, but no matter how many vaccines they invent, Yamaraj says, 'You may invent a vaccine, but next year I will create another disease.' Do you think there is an end to diseases? This life is not eternal – there is one disease today, and even if scientists learn to cope with it, there will always be another disease tomorrow. They will invent one vaccine, but in the meantime Yamaraj will create a thousand more diseases. There will never be an end to it. People ask me, 'Maharaj, why are you making so many programmes amidst COVID-19?' It is COVID-19 this year – next year it will be COVID-20, and in 2021 it will be COVID-21, and in 2024 it will be COVID-24, COVID-25, and so on. Does that mean that we must now stop our practising life? Does it mean that we must stop preaching? No. Science has given some facility to us, and we can give classes online, in the Internet (zoom, facebook, youtube, etc.). We must always preach about the Lord all over the world. There are smartphones now, and you can always hear classes in your phones. It is Sunday today, so I will leave after the programme to go back to Kolkata because I am giving an online class in the evening. You must always listen to Krishna-katha and discuss Krishna-katha, always talk about the Lord – that is why sadhus come to you. They come to tell you only one thing. You must remember it.

My Srila Gurudev gave a nice example. For example, you have a phone, and you can use it to speak to somebody who is on the other end of the world, in America. Is there any wire connecting the phones? Without any wires, it is possible to speak to somebody in another place (Vrindava, Delhi, America) through the medium of ether, or sound. So, when we preach sabda-brahma, transcendental sound vibration, in this world, why can we not reach Goloka Vrindavan and the Lord through this sound vibration?

হরের্নাম হরের্নাম হরের্নামৈব কেবলম্ ।
কলৌ নাস্ত্যেব নাস্ত্যেব নাস্ত্যেব গতিরন্যথা ॥

harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha

'Chanting the Holy Name, chanting the Holy Name, chanting the Holy Name – there is no other way, no other way, no other way.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.7.76)

We can reach the Lord through this Holy Name, but we must chant it without offences.

অপরাধশূন্য হয়ে লহ কৃষ্ণ-নাম ।
অচিরাৎ তুমি পাবে কৃষ্ণ-প্রেম-ধন ॥

aparadha-sunya haye laha krsna-nama
achirat tumi pabe krsna-prema-dhana

'Chant the Holy Name of Krishna without offence and you will quickly get the treasure of divine love to Krishna.'

If you chant the Holy Name of Krishna without offences, you will get the treasure of divine love very fast. This is the main thing. There are many stories, many things that can be told – let us chant a few kirtans now. Listen carefully to the kirtan, after that we will speak again. Do not only sit quietly – you must chant kirtan together with me. I have not come to chant kirtans – I have come to make you chant kirtans. Many people come to chant kirtans and go away, but that is not right because we do not come to chant kirtans, we come to make you all chant kirtans. Chant what I am chanting. Practise. Practice makes perfect. Our sangha's name is Sri Chaitanya Saraswata Krishna-anusilana Sangha. We must practise Krishna consciousness (Krishna-anusilana). When you want to pass some test, you must first study or practise a lot, and if you stop practising and studying, you will forget everything. That is why we must always live thinking about these things.
