(3/9) How to Attain Mercy

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham, morning class before parikrama
17 February 2019, part 3
Translated from Bengali

We want to serve Nityananda Prabhu's devotees. Very soon we are going for the paikrama, and after that we will all take prasad. We have a mouth to be able to speak and eat. In the next life, we can also get a mouth to eat with, but we may not get a mouth that we can speak with. You can see cows and think – they only eat, they cannot talk about Nityananda Prabhu. The Lord has given us this human birth – He has given you sons and daughters. He may or may not give you something, and when He gives something, He can also take it away. Everything comes through His hand, but we do not worship the Lord, we do not think about the Lord – people only think about their wives, sons, daughters and houses. Even when they come here, to the holy abode of Nityananda Prabhu, they talk with others about their homes, about other nonsense. And then they will all go to take prasad... How much people talk! Please always stay engaged in service. When you come to the holy abode of Nityananda Prabhu, serve Nityananda Prabhu.

When Nityananda Prabhu left Ekachakra with a sannyasi (His father and mother had to give Him away), Hadai Pandit was so grief-stricken (his only son had left!) that he fasted for many days. He gave his son to the sannyasi, but he felt so much pain after that – if you are a mother or a father, you can understand what it is like to lose your son...

Krishna and Balaram are one but manifest Themselves in two bodies, just as Gaura and Nitai are one but also manifest Themselves in two bodies. Nityananda Prabhu is asraya-vigraha (embodiment of shelter), and His body is absolutely non-different from Gaura. Always remember this. There is no difference between Gaura and Nitai.

So, when Nityananda left Ekachakra, He came to Nabadwip. He was a young boy, possessing a very beautiful form. At that time, Gauranga Mahaprabhu could understand that a very great personality had come to Mayapur riding a chariot marked with a beautiful flag of a palm tree. He told Srivas Pandit and other devotees, 'Listen! A great personality has come to Mayapur. Go and find Him!' Nobody could find Him, and then Mahaprabhu Himself went straight to Nandan Acharya Bhavan (the house of Sri Nandan Acharya). There, He saw a lustrous sadhu sitting outside the house. As soon as They met, They embraced each other, and all the devotees could understand that the sadhu was that great personality that Mahaprabhu had told them about. Not everybody can find Him. Nityananda Prabhu is a very hidden, esoteric personality. Everybody is looking for the treasure of divine love, but not everybody finds it – everybody finds treasures of lust, treasures of Maya, but it is not so easy to find the treasure of divine love. It is necessary to have surrender...

We sing every morning:

dainya, atma-nivedana, goptrtve varana
'avasya raksibe krsna'—visvasa palana
bhakti-anukula matra karyera svikara
bhakti-pratikula bhava—varjanangikara
sad-anga saranagati haibe yanhara
tanhara prarthana sune sri-nanda-kumara

'(1) Humility, (2) self-submission, (3) accepting the Lord as your maintainer, (4) keeping faith that "Krishna will certainly protect me", (5) engaging only in what is favourable to devotion, (6) rejecting what is unfavourable to devotion. Lord Krishna hears the prayers of those who surrender in these six ways.'

(Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

If you can surrender yourself at the holy lotus feet of gurudev, who is non-different from Nityananda-tattva, in these six ways without giving shelter to hypocrisy, or duplicity, within you and fall at the holy lotus feet of Nityananda Prabhu, at the holy lotus feet of gurudev, gurudev must certainly give mercy to you. You cannot achieve this with deceitful, feigned or fake devotion...

Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu: The All-Rounder
'Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu did everything alone—he cooked, did puja, cleaned the temple, brought water from the Yamuna, and also did personal service to his Guru. He was busy with his service from morning to night, and did everything alone.'

Chanting the Holy Name (Harinam) and chanting the Holy Name with
offences (Nama-aparadha) are not same thing.
