Srimad Rupa-pada-rajah Prarthana Dasakam
(Prayer for the Dust of Srimad Rupa Goswami's Feet)

By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj

srimach-chaitanya-padau chara-kamala-yugau netra-bhrngau madhu dyau
gaude tau payayantau vraja-vipina-gatau vyajayuktau samutkau

sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [1]

Avoiding the travel to Sri Vrindavan, Sri Chaitanya’s holy lotus feet, a mine of all good fortune, blessed the land of Gauda with their beauty – the chief leader of His devotees (the sampradaya was thus called ‘Rupanuga Sampradaya’) and his brothers came, and His holy lotus feet satiated the anxious bumblebees of their eyes with nectar – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

pita-sri-gaura-padambuja-madhu-madironmatta-hrd-bhrnga-rajo
rajyaisvaryam jahau yo jana-nivaha-hitadatta-chitto nijagryam
vijnapya svanujena vraja-gamana-ratam chanvagat gaurachandram
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [2]

In Sri Ramakeli Dham, when his bumblebee heart became intoxicated with the wine of nectar emanating from the holy lotus feet of Sri Gaurachandra, he sacrificed himself (through Hari-kirtan) for the benefit of all souls and left all royal opulence; after informing his elder brother, Sri Sanatan, he and his younger brother, Sri Vallabha, followed Sri Chaitanyadev, who was eager to go (from Nilachal) to Sri Vrindavan – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

bhavaih svair madayantam hrta-nidhir iva tam krsna-chaitanyachandram
vrndaranyat prayage hari-rasa-natanair nama-sankirtanais cha
lebhe yo madhavagre jana-gahana-gatam prema-mattam janams cha
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [3]

Leaving Sri Vrindavan, Sri Chaitanya-chandra went to Prayag Dham, where He chanted fervently and danced, intoxicated with divine love, among thousands of people, and where He melted the hearts of hundreds of believers by displaying miraculous ecstatic symptoms (sattvika, etc.) – coming to Him in front of Sri Bindu-Madhav’s Deity, he felt as if he had found his lost treasure – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

ekantam labdha-padambuja-nija-hrdaya-prestha-patro mahartir
dainyair-duhkhasru-purnair dasana-dhrta-trnaih pujayamasa gauram
svantah krsnan cha ganga-dina-mani-tanaya-sangame sanujo yah
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [4]

At the pure confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna, having got a private audience of the holy lotus feet of his very own beloved Lord, who is Krishna internally and of golden complexion externally, together with his younger brother he ardently worshipped Him with humility and sorrowful tears, holding grass between his teeth – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

svasya prema-svarupam priya-dayita-vilasanurupaika-rupam
dure bhu-lunthitam yam sahaja-sumadhura-sriyutam sanujan cha
drstva devo ’ti-turnam stuti-bahu-mukham aslisya gadham raranje
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [5]

When Sri Chaitanyadev saw His very own – His very love, His dearest and beloved associate, the source of His innate joy, His exclusive follower – rolling on the ground together with his younger brother, He quickly came up to him, and, praising him loudly, embraced him tightly, rejoicing at heart – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

kaivalya-prema-bhumav-akhila-rasa-sudha-sindhu-sanchara-daksam
jnatvapy evan cha radha-pada-bhajana-sudham lilayapayayad yam
saktim sancharya gauro nija-bhajana-sudha-dana-daksam chakara
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [6]

Although (as His eternal associate) he is expert at sailing in the ocean of nectar of all possible ecstasy found in the land of pure divine love (divine sentiments of Vraja), to manifest His pastimes, Sri Gaura-Hari made him drink the nectar of servitude to Sri Radha and, vesting him with His power, He distributed to him the pure nectar of His own worship and imparted to him all relevant knowledge – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

gauradesach cha vrnda-vipinam iha parikramya nilachalam yo
gatva kavyamrtaih svair-vraja-yuva-yugala-kridanarthaih prakamam
ramananda-svarupadibhir api kavibhis tarpayamasa gauram
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [7]

At that time, following Sri Gauranga’s order, he completed his pilgrimage to Sri Vraja Mandal and arrived in Sri Purusottam Ksetra; there, he brought much pleasure to Sri Chaitanya-chandra, as well as Sri Ramananda Ray, Svarup and other learned personalities, with his nectarean poetry about the pastimes of the Divine Couple in Vraja – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

lila-samgopane sri-bhagavata iha vai jangame sthavare ’pi
sammugdhe sagrajatah prabhu-viraha-hrta-praya-jivendriyanam
yas chasid asrayaika-sthalam iva raghu-gopala-jivadi-varge
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [8]

When Supreme Lord Sri Chaitanyadev concealed His pastimes from the world and all souls – both mobile and immobile – became bewildered by deep sadness, at that time he and his elder brother became the only shelter for such intimate devotees of the Lord as Raghunath, Gopal Bhatta and Sri Jiva, who, in separation from the Lord, had virtually become robbed of their very hearts and senses – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

sri-radha-krsna-padambuja-bhajana-mayam raga-margam visuddham
sri-murteh sadhu-vrtteh prakatanam api tal-lupta-tirthadikanam
granthair yena pradattam nikhilam iha nijabhista-devepsitan cha
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [9]

He revealed Deity worship, established the rules of practising pure devotion, manifested hidden holy places and showed the ideal of loving service to Sri Radha-Govinda in the line of the highest spontaneous devotion (raga-marga) – making these and other contributions, he granted many scriptures to this world, fulfilling thus all cherished desires of his worshippable Lord, Sri Chaitanya-chandra – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

yogyayogyatva-bhavam mama khalu sakalam dusta-buddher agrhnan
lila-samgopa-kale nirupadhi-karuna-karina svaminaham
yat padabje ’rpito yat pada-bhajana-mayam gayayitva tu gitam
sa sri-rupah kada mam nija-pada-rajasa bhusitam samvidhatte [10]

Although I am a wretch, my causelessly merciful Divine Master, Srila Saraswati Thakur overlooked whether I am qualified or unqualified and, right before concealing his pastimes, offered me at his holy lotus feet by having me sing a song (‘Sri Rupa-manjari-pada’) in his glorification – when will this Srimad Rupa Prabhu adorn me with his holy foot dust?

Sanatan Goswami:
On the Way to Mahaprabhu
Having escaped from the jail, Srila Sanatan Goswami Prabhu begins his journey to Mahaprabhu and faces more obstacles on his way: clever dacoits, unexpected bad association, and a family snare.

You must know the meaning of the songs otherwise you will not get taste through it; when you understand the meaning, you will get the real taste, the real sweetness through it.
