SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SRI ARATI GITI
Sri Hari-vasara Giti
(Sung on ekadasi days, in the morning)
sri-hari-vasare hari-kirtana-vidhana
nrtya arambhila prabhu jagatera prana [1]
On the holy day of Sri Hari (ekadasi), when chanting Sri
Hari-kirtan is prescribed, the Lord, the life and soul of the universe,
began to dance.
punyavanta srivasa-angane subharambha
uthila kirtana-dhvani ‘gopala-govinda’ [2]
Starting beautifully in the courtyard of pious Srivas, the sound of the
kirtan grew louder as devotees chanted the Holy Names of the Lord:
‘Gopal! Govinda!’
mrdanga-mandira baje sankha karatala
sankirtana-sange saba haila misala [3]
The sounds of the mridangas, cymbals, conchshells and clapping hands
all merged together in the sankirtan.
brahmande uthila dhvani puriya akasa
chaudikera amangala yaya saba nasa [4]
The sounds of the chanting that arose there filled the sky of the entire
universe and destroyed inauspiciousness all around.
chatur-dike sri-hari-mangala sankirtana
madhye nache jagannatha misrera nandana [5]
The all-auspicious sankirtan of the Lord resounded in all four
directions, the son of Jagannath Misra dancing in its centre.
sabara angete sobhe sri-chandana-mala
anande nachaye sabe haiya vibhola [6]
Decorated with holy sandalwood paste and flower garlands, everyone danced,
feeling overwhelmed with joy.
nijanande nache mahaprabhu visvambhara
charanera tali suni ati manohara [7]
Mahaprabhu Visvambhar danced, engulfed in joy, and the sweet beats of His
feet sounded extremely captivating.
bhavavese mala nahi rahaye galaya
chhindiya padaye giya bhakatera gaya [8]
He was so engulfed in ecstasy that His flower garland could not stay on His
neck – it tore and fell on devotees’ bodies.
yara namanande siva vasana na jane
yara rase nache siva, se nache apane [9]
The joy of whose Name makes Lord Siva forget about clothes; the ecstasy of
whose Name makes Lord Siva dance – that very Lord is now dancing Himself!
yara name valmiki haila tapodhana
yara name ajamila paila mochana [10]
yara nama sravane samsara-bandha ghuche
hena prabhu avatari kali-yuge nache [11]
By the power of whose Name Valmiki practised great austerities; by the power
of whose Name Ajamil attained liberation; by hearing whose Name the bondage
of material existence is destroyed – that very Lord descends and dances in
the Age of Kali.
yara nama lai’ suka-narada bedaya
sahasra-vadana-prabhu yara guna gaya [12]
sarva-maha-prayaschita ye prabhura nama
se prabhu nachaye, dekhe yata bhagyavan [13]
He whose Name Sukadev and Narad chant as they wander about; He whose glories
are sung by thousand-mouthed Anantadev; He whose Name is the greatest of all
kinds of atonements – that very Lord is now dancing. Those who are fortunate
can see it.
sri-krsna-chaitanya nityananda-chanda jana
vrndavana dasa tachhu pada-yuge gana [14]
Vrindavan Das sings this at the holy feet of Sri Krishna Chaitanya and
Nityananda-chand, who are his very life and soul.
