SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SPECIAL POETRY
Sri Guru Prasastih
(In Praise of Sri Guru)
(By His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj)
apanake janai koti dandavat nati
chira-dina oi pade thake yena mati [1]
I offer you ten million prostrate obeisances. May I forever remain attached
to your holy feet.
maya pase yadi phamsi ye kona samaya
taribara lagi yena, daki go tomaya [2]
Whenever Maya throws a noose around my neck, I will call out to you for
help.
sadhu, guru, vaisnavera gane, sukha pai
yakhana ya khusi mane, takhani ta gai [3]
The glories of sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs bring so much
happiness that I just sing whatever comes to my mind.
papa punya labha ksati, nahika vichara
jani, vaisnava krpate saba yabe anachara [4]
I do not think about piety or sin, gain or loss – I only know that by the
mercy of Vaishnavs, all undesirable things will go away.
tandera guna-gana-sakti, mora kabhu nai
tabu pagalera mata, ki ye yena gai [5]
I will never be able to glorify their qualities. Still, I am singing like a
madman.
sadhu, guru, vaisnava, krsnera prana-dhana
tandera pada-jala-renu-mage mora mana [6]
My mind prays for the foot dust and water that has washed the holy feet of
sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs, who are Krishna’s life and
soul.
manera pipasa bada sadhu sane basa
sarvasva tyajiya tai kari abhilasa [7]
My mind thirsts to live in sadhus’ association. Giving up everything,
I long only for this.
tandera charane kata koti papa kari
mana tabu pade thake oi pada dhari [8]
How many millions of sins do I commit at their feet? Still, my mind falls at
their feet, clasping them.
arao kata bale mana, koti duhkha sahi
janme janme yena ami, oi pade rahi [9]
What more can I say? No matter how many millions of miseries I have to
tolerate birth after birth, may I only remain at their feet.
hathat dese uthala sara, sahara theke sakala pada,
vichitra kutuhale
sakale aja anandete, ekatre saba uthala mete,
nache gaya dale dale [10]
All of a sudden, throughout the land, in all wards of the town, there arose a
peculiar delight. Today, filled with bliss, everyone dances and sings all
together forming many groups.
bhakta-gana saba avirata, sraddhanjali dichchhe kata,
sri-mathete asi
gauda desera hrdaya majhe, yena sakala, dupura, sanje,
bajachhe mohana vamsi [11]
Throughout the morning, afternoon and evening, devotees keep coming to the
holy temple standing in the heart of Gauda, bringing many auspicious
offerings. A stupefying flute song can be heard all around.
subha atharoi disembara, krsna-dvitiya buddhabara,
barddhamanera akasa kari alo
bamuna padara bamuna ghare, janama nila jivera tare,
apurva sundara sisu mohaniya bhalo [12]
On the auspicious day of 18 December (Wednesday), on the second night of the
waning moon (Krishna-dvitiya), a ray of light fell from the sky.
Attracting all auspiciousness, an unprecedentedly beautiful child took birth
in the district of brahmans (Bamunpara), in a house of a
brahman, to rescue jiva souls.
sri-tarangini devi mata, nitai pada, nitya pita,
sri-devaki-vasudeva sama
guru rupe nanda-kumara, yena krpa karila e-bara,
jivera nasibe rajah tama [13]
His mother Sri Tarangini Devi and his eternal father Nitaipad resemble Sri
Devaki and Vasudev. Nanda’s youthful Son has come in the form of a
guru to bestow His mercy and destroy jiva souls’ passion and
ignorance.
sei sisu aja mahajana, bhakti sundara govinda dhana,
jagatera ananta gaurava
brahmanda bhodiya goloka dhama, sarvatra prakasa tomara nama,
he prabhu, tava seva-saurabha [14]
This child is now a great soul, a treasure bearing the name Sri Bhakti Sundar
Govinda – he is a repository of unfathomable glory in this world. You
revealed Goloka Dham in this universe. O Master! Through the sweet fragrance
of your service, your name is now renowned all over the world.
tomara komala murati aja, gantha raya yena hrdaya majha,
chintiba o pada niti
bhakta sajjana mile kata, mahima rachibe sata sata,
ke kata gahibe tava giti [15]
Today I keep your very soft, graceful holy form tied within the core of my
heart. May I eternally think about your holy feet. So many great souls and
devotees will come and compose hundreds of verses, but how many of your
glories can one possibly describe?
paiya tava sitala charana, mangalakanksi karibe varana,
parabe phulera mala
jivera lagi dharile kaya, tomara bhaye palabe maya,
judabe jagata jvala [16]
Coming to your cooling lotus feet, those who desire to attain true welfare
will worship and garland them. You accepted a body for the sake of
jiva souls. Seeing you, Maya will flee in fear and all agony of this
world will be soothed.
rajasanera raja yemana, tomara sobha ajake temana,
raja michhe, tumi nitya satya
agadha tava sastra jnane, golokera sei nitya dhane,
bilao bharuk artta jivera chitta [17]
Your lustrous beauty is such that you resemble a king sitting on a royal
throne – but a king is false and useless, and you are eternally true. You
distribute your unfathomable knowledge of scriptures, eternal wealth of
Goloka – may it fill the distressed hearts of all souls.
paramparara sutra dhare, asiyachha modani pare,
prakasite jivoddhara lila
krpara adhara guru-maharaja, tomate sarva-sakti sanchara,
kariya sva-simhasana dila [18]
You have come to this world in a disciplic succession to manifest the pastime
of delivering souls. Srila Guru Maharaj, a storehouse of mercy, passed all
his power on to you and made you sit on his own throne.
chira pankila dharani-tale, suddha bhakati prakata karile—
yena apurva chinmaya saroja
tara su-madhura divya gandha, tomara majhare ankichhe chhanda,
bilabe sakale prema-varaja [19]
On this forever-muddied surface of the earth, you have revealed pure
devotion, which is like an extraordinary transcendental lotus. Its sweet
fragrance has awakened within you a desire to distribute creepers of divine
love to everybody.
tava krpa-taru-sitala chhayaya, e duhkhi-jana yena thani paya,
ohe dina-dayala thakura
tumi navodita nirmala bhaskara, dayamaya deva bhakati sundara,
bhavio tomara kukura [20]
My Master, you are so merciful to the poor. This miserable soul has got a
place in the cooling shade beneath the tree of your mercy. You are a spotless
newly risen sun! O merciful Lord, Sri Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami
Maharaj, please consider me your dog.
sri-bhakti-raksaka prabhu sri-sridhara, tomake vanala bhava karna-dhara,
mo sama patita lagi
tai tava subha avirbhava dine, gati nai aicharana vihane,
e patita kande krpa magi [21]
Our Divine Master, Sri Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, has made
you the helmsman of the world for the sake of such fallen, degraded souls as
me. So, on the auspicious day of your appearance, there is no other refuge
for me other than your feet – this fallen soul is crying and begging you for
mercy.
