SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI : SPECIAL POETRY
Sri Guru Prasasti
(By Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj)
bhagyadhisa! tvadiyo vimala-sukha-mayah samprakasas tu nityo
gaudam rarham tathedam tribhuvanam akhilam dhanya-dhanyan chakara
khande kale drsam no gagana-rasa-samitam purayitva budhanam
anandam varddhayan vai svaparijana-ganair dhamani tvam vibhasi [1]
O master of my fate and fortune! Your holy manifest form is eternal and full
of unblemished joy. Abundantly blessing the lands of Rarh, Gauda and the
whole three worlds, you appeared together with your associates in the holy
abode at this discordant time, filling the sky with transcendental ecstasy
and increasing the joy of the wise.
devadyas te ’khila-guna-ganan naiva gatum samarthah
kvaham jivo ’tisaya-patito manda-bhagyo ’tiksudrah
bho aradhya! stavana-visaye kintu dinadhamasya
pratyasa tat-su-karunataya virachandrabhidas tvam [2]
O master! Even the most exalted souls are unable to sing all your glories.
And who am I? I am an extremely fallen soul, unfortunate and utterly
insignificant. O worshippable master! In this attempt to glorify you this
poor and lowly soul’s hope is that you are as greatly merciful as Virachandra
Prabhu.
drstva visvasya jivan khalu hari-vimukhan gauradevo dayaya
rupam gaude bhavantam parama-karunaya prahinod dina-bandho!
etaj jnatva prakasat sudina-samudayam smaram asah saharsa
jayante chaiva maya-nigada-nikara-sammochane ’smakam addha [3]
O friend of the destitute! Seeing the aversion of the souls of this world
towards the Supreme Lord, Lord Gaura mercifully sent you to the land of
Gauda. Understanding this and remembering the glorious day of your
appearance, we feel happy and hopeful that we will certainly become released
from Maya’s numerous shackles.
yadvad bhanuh kirana-nikarair bhasayan visvam etan
nasam krtva nikhila-tamasam tejasa samvibhati
krtva nasam prakrti-tamasam satya-suryam prakasya
divya-jnanair hari-guna-ganais tvan cha tadvad vibhasi [4]
Just as the powerful radiance of the sun illuminates the world with its rays
and dispels all darkness, the radiance of your divine knowledge dispels,
through the qualities of the Lord, the darkness of the material world and
reveals the sun of the Truth.
duhkhaih purnam vibudha-hrdayam kala-dharmach cha drstva
mayavadan kalija-kumatan duskrtan sasitun cha
dese dese bhramasi vitaran gaura-vanin cha nama
dhrtva deva! tribhuvana-jayam vajra-kalpam tridandam [5]
Saddened that the hearts of the wise have become affected by the influence of
time (that religion has become gradually lost) and intent on chastising the
miscreants who follow the impersonal misconception produced by Kali, you
travel everywhere distributing Lord Gaura’s teachings and Holy Name. O Lord!
You conquer the entire three worlds striking thunderbolts with your triple
staff of a mendicant.
varsayam vai sajala-jalado vadayan mandra-bherim
yadvad visve bhramati bahudha varidharan cha varsan
tadvad bhumau bhramasi sa-ganair ghosayan gaura-gatha
nityam divyamrta-sukarunam tvam hi deva! pravarsan [6]
Just as water-bearing clouds wander about beating a deep-sounding drum in the
rainy season, shedding torrents of rain, you and your associates wander about
the earth, marching and proclaiming Gaura’s glories. O Lord! Truly, you
always pour without reservation the divine nectar of your mercy.
sri-chaitanya-vilasa-dhamani navadvipasrame sundare
sri-gauranga-vidhos tatha vraja-yunoh seva-sudha-sampadam
tanvan ganga-tate daya-maya-vibho! sadhun samahladayan
sri-rupanuga-sampradaya-vibhavan udbhasayan bhasase [7]
At the beautiful Nabadwip ashram standing on the banks of the Ganges
in the holy abode where Lord Sri Chaitanya revelled in His pastimes, you
increase the wealth of the divine nectar of devotional service to the Divine
Couple following the footsteps of Lord Sri Gauranga. My great, merciful Lord!
Your holy discourses delight all saints and highlight the majesty of Sri
Rupanuga lineage.
charvakanta-krtantako ’khila-guruh pasanda-sailasanir
bauddha-dhvanta-matanta-dayaka-maha-martanda-chuda-manih
mayavada-maha-vivarta-gahanaj-jivan samuddharayan
sri-gaurendu-jaya-dhvajo vijayate svamin bhavan-nityasah [8]
You are a universal guru who strikes the mountain of heresy spread by
the atheist Charvak, death personified; you are the crown jewel, the radiant
sun dispelling the darkness spread by Buddhism. You rescue everyone from the
painful life in the abysmal whirlpool of impersonalism. O my eternal Lord and
Master! May the triumphant banner of Lord Sri Gaurendu (Golden Moon) be ever
victorious!
sri-gauranga-sarasvati-dhuni-dhara! sri-bhakti-samraksaka
sri-siddhanta-sarasvati-priya-vara! nyasisvara! sri-guro!
devadyeha! bhavat-subhodaya-dine samprarthaye ’ham vibho!
padabje khalu nitya-bhrtya iti me karunyam atanvatam [9]
O Holder of the divine Sri Gauranga-Saraswati River! You are the worshippable
protector of devotion. You are the dearmost associate of Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur! O King among sannyasis! O Divine
Master! O Supreme Lord of this universe! I am praying to you, my Lord, on
this auspicious day: please extend your mercy to me – let me be an eternal
servant of your holy lotus feet.
