Halo of Service Life
'If you cook cabbage or potato, the cabbage and potato will be able to do some service. To grow something, you need water, wind, soil and other facilities – water, wind and soil are all represented by demigods, and even they want to serve Lord Govinda. It is within sadhus' and devotees' capacity to engage everybody in the service of Lord Govinda.'

Pride in Our Identity
"It is unfortunate that people become great PhDs, get doctorates and become very proud of that. What should we be proud of? We must be proud of being eternal servants – eternal servants of the servants of devotees. This is our main pride. But we become proud of our mundane education. Real education is when you learn to be a devotee."

(8) THE WAVES OF KAMA AND PREMA
'In English we translate the word prema as “love for Krishna”. Actually there is no word in English for prema. Prema means something like a mixture of love, attraction, attachment, affection, and sincere hankering. When Srila Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami says trijagat kaila kama-maya he means that the universe is overflooded with both kama, the desire for mundane enjoyment, and prema, the desire to lovingly serve Krishna.'

SPECIAl POETRY: Sri Guru Prasastih
‘I offer you ten million prostrate obeisances. May I forever remain attached to your holy feet. The glories of sadhus, gurus and Vaishnavs bring so much happiness that I just sing whatever comes to my mind.’

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Three, chanted on Mondays)
'He ardently preached that service performed in various divine relationships (from dasya-, sakhya-, vatsalya- to madhura-rasa) and the (paramount) service beauty of Sri Radha’s servitors in the highest paramour madhura-rasa, as well as any transcendental hankering of the self-realised souls in Sri Vraja Dham, can indisputably be realised in Sri Vrajendra-nandan only – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Deity Eats
'Mahaprabhu had a close devotee called Mukunda Prabhu. Mukunda Prabhu had only one son, his name was Raghunandan. If you go to Srikhanda, you can see a place called Narahari Dham. There, the Deity has half of a sweet in His hand. Do you know why?'

This Is Not a Playground
"You must come here surrendering your everything – all your hearts, souls, minds, everything – at the lotus feet of the Lord. We always blame the Lord for making us suffer, but we do not blame ourselves for not being able to surrender to the Lord. You blame the Lord, but have you become surrendered to the Lord? You must ask yourselves this question."

(9) PERFECT HARMONY
'The conception of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is called the achintya-bhedabheda-siddhanta: the conclusion of inconceivable difference and nondifference. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu taught that the achintya-bhedabheda-siddhanta applies to everything, and that everything can be adjusted and harmonised by it. His teaching of achintya-bhedabheda-siddhanta is not a vad, an ism. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu did not preach an ism. He preached siddhanta: perfect conclusions that make perfect harmony with everything, perfect conclusions that harmonise all isms.'

SPECIAl POETRY: Pranama-mantras of Srila Sridhar Maharaj
‘His holy form is of a radiant golden colour, he is very beautiful and gentle; he is a holy guru who is revered by the most learned souls and is replete with all perfections; he is adorned by the garments the colour of the rising sun and is engaged in the joyful pastimes of bestowing devotion. Dear mind, please worship this Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj.’

SPECIAl POETRY: Pranati Dasakam (naumi sri-gurupadabjam)
‘Those who happily and with faith study this "Pranati Dasakam" every day will attain the mercy of Srila Gurudev’s associates and receive the right to serve the Lord on the path of spontaneous love.’

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Four, chanted on Tuesdays)
'Overcome with strong bouts of divine love surging through Him and becoming unconscious of the world around Him, He dances madly and chants kirtan; the tears streaming incessantly from His eyes flood His body, the colour of molten gold and tall as the mount Sumeru, His clothes, the colour of the newly risen sun, and the earth in all fourteen directions around Him; He glows as He chants, ‘Krishna! Krishna!’, shouts jumbled up words and relishes various postures and behaviours (roaring with laughter, etc.) under the influence of divine love – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Deity Gives Witness
'Ksir-chor Gopinath stole ksir (condensed milk) for Madhavendra Puri. Saksi Gopal went to Vidyanagar and gave witness (saksi), after which an Odian king fought a battle and brought the Deity to His current temple. One time, Saksi Gopal wanted to have a nose ring...'

Wrong Worries
"You have no faith, that is why you have no devotion. Devotion (Bhakti Devi) does not stay where there is no faith. She runs away from such places. Bhakti Devi always wants a clean place. If you stuff the room with sacks of potato, dal, rice, etc., where will you seat your Thakur?"

(10) SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION
'I have been reading Srimad Bhagavad-gita and practising bhakti-yoga all my life, and through that I have understood that everything within Srimad Bhagavad-gita is important for everyone. I have read Srimad Bhagavad-gita so many times, and every time I read it new meaning comes to me. But the general meanings of the verses do not become suppressed. Rather, more and more meanings continue to overflow. I am so satisfied with that. From deep to deeper to deepest, everything is presented in Srimad Bhagavad-gita. It is necessary for everyone to read Srimad Bhagavad-gita every day attentively. Day by day I am more and more enthusiastic to preach the conception taught in Srimad Bhagavad-gita because it is very essential for the primary religious education of all people.'

• SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI •

SPECIAl POETRY: Sri Guru Prasasti (bhagyadhisa! tvadiyo)
‘O Holder of the divine Sri Gauranga-Saraswati River! You are the worshippable protector of devotion. You are the dearmost associate of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur! O King among sannyasis! O Divine Master! O Supreme Lord of this universe! I am praying to you, my Lord, on this auspicious day: please extend your mercy to me – let me be an eternal servant of your holy lotus feet.’

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Five, chanted on Wednesdays)
'He reveals (first, to Sri Sanatan and then to Prakasananda) sixty-two interpretations of the famous verse ‘Atmaramas cha… ittham-bhuta-guno harih’ (‘Even self-realised, self-satisfied souls are moved to worship the Lord’) from Srimad Bhagavatam; interpreting the various lexical meanings of the eleven words of this verse, juxtaposed in different ways, He reveals a treasure-mine of multitudinous meanings of this verse in consonance with the precepts of pure devotional conclusions – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Pure Identity
"We must have jnana-sunya bhakti: ‘I do not know anything, I do not understand anything. O Lord, I am a lowly, fallen soul.’ We must watch out and make sure we do not have the ego that ‘I have become a big Vaishnav!’ What did Mahaprabhu say describing His own identity?"

(11) SPIRITUAL REVOLUTION
'Krishna’s advice is revolutionary but also simple. It is actually a direct description of the jiva soul’s position as His eternal servant. Krishna’s teaching is actually an expression of the universal spirituality natural to all souls: anything not done in Krishna consciousness is sinful, and everything done for Krishna is pious. This is the key to harmonising everything and understanding Krishna’s revolutionary teaching at the conclusion of Srimad Bhagavad-gita and throughout Srimad Bhagavatam—Krishna’s subjective revolution of consciousness.'

(12) SURRENDER
'Krishna is always with us. He lives in our heart in the form of Paramatma. From within our hearts He observes everything we do and all the reactions we create for ourselves. Whenever we consciously surrender to Him and act according to our nature as His eternal servants, He removes all of our karmic reactions, fills our hearts with happiness, joy, and beauty, and gives us entrance into the ecstatic world of Goloka Vrindavan Dham.'

• SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI •

SPECIAl POETRY: Stava Kusumanjalih (hari-bhakti-rasamrta)
‘You always liberally grant the nectarean ecstasy of devotion to the Supreme Lord. The beauty of your radiant form, which is worshipped by all sincere seekers, defeats the beauty of hundreds of moons. I am offering hundreds and hundreds of obeisances to You, the greatest of worshippable Lords.’

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Six, chanted on Thursdays)
'Captivated by and afflicted with an intense feeling of separation, He runs swiftly to the simha-dvara gate of Lord Jagannathdev’s holy temple; the next moment He falls down on the spot, His holy figure transformed into that of a tortoise by the influence of deep separation; attracted by the uncommon divine fragrance emanating from His holy figure, the Telangi cows residing at the temple draw near, surrounding Him – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

(13) THE TRANSCENDENTAL SERVICE WORLD
'Sometimes great hope comes to us in our lives, and sometimes hopeless situations come to us, but we do not become frustrated in any way, and we do not leave Krishna consciousness. We only try to engage ourselves in Krishna’s service. We cannot leave our internal enemies forever. From time to time our internal enemies will disturb us. Sometimes we will be submerged in them. I can understand now that such immersion is for our purification, and that we will not remain immersed in them forever. This is our position, and all we can do is try to not allow ourselves to always be a servant of our mundane desires, while we pray to the Lord for His mercy and try to engage in His service.'

• SRI GAUDIYA GITANJALI •

SPECIAl POETRY: Sri Guru Prasastih (sri-gaura-mandala-majhe hapaniya grama)
‘I very joyfully offer obeisances and prayers to all those who have any connection with my Lord. May you all kindly bestow your blessings upon me so that I may receive the mercy of my Lord without any obstacles.’

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Seven, chanted on Fridays)
'He is a holy embodiment of the beautiful reality which is beyond the reach of one’s eyes and ears, which paralyses the very necessity of intelligence and which leaves even firmly fixed consciousness dumbstruck when divine love surges up – even Brahma, Sambhu (Siva), as well as their revealed scriptures, Vedas and tantras cannot conceive of such reality, so they merely keep searching after Him – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Why Are You Wasting Time?
'There are many things that I can tell you, but there is no point in knowing so many things, in reading so many books. Meaning of Discipleship
"Now, if you tell one word to disciples, they get angry. They live as they please. We think that we sing a song and this is it, we have practised Krishna consciousness. No. Krishna consciousness means following what your gurudev says and serving your guru and Vaishnavs. It means to please them."

(14) THE TRANSCENDENTAL VIBRATION FORM OF THE LORD
'When we chant the Lord’s Holy Name it is not necessary to think or focus on anything. We only need to chant in a prayerful mood of surrender, considering, “I am Yours, and You are mine.” Through this mood our relationship with the Lord will be finalised. At first it will not become final, but by chanting, chanting, and chanting, slowly the source of our chanting, the Lord, will fully acquire our mind. The Lord’s Holy Name will enter our heart and give us full nourishment: supreme benefit, auspiciousness, and so on. We have no other way but to chant the Lord’s Holy Name in humble surrender.'

(15) SRI CHAITANYA MAHAPRABHU’S MOOD OF DEVOTION
'Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu did not write many verses or give many instructions. He simply gave the gist of all instructions in His Siksastakam. There is no way to proceed in our spiritual life or in our chanting of the Lord’s Holy Names without following the directives of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu given in His Siksastakam. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Siksastakam is our life and soul. We will try until death to proceed according to its instructions and we must be benefitted to the utmost by that.'

SPECIAl POETRY: Homage to Srila Prabhupad
‘O Universal Guru, Bhagavan Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur! Please mercifully consider me, birth after birth, a speck of dust at your holy lotus feet.’

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part One, chanted on Saturdays)
'Demigods, perfected souls, liberated souls, yogis and Lord’s devotees always sing His praise; He relieves the world from the blazing forest fire of three-fold miseries (caused by the desire for enjoyment, liberation and perfections) brought about by inauspicious actions (performed in aversion to the Supreme Lord); an ocean of generosity, He bestows His own Name from the nectarean storehouse of Lord Sri Krishna’s Names – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

Blind and Selfish Existence
'You forget who created you, who you come from. It is owing to Him that you have a house, a room, a wife, a son, a daughter, money, but out of pride you enjoy everything as if it was yours. (16) SERVING UNDER PROPER GUIDANCE
'We cannot see Krishna’s divine form or hear His Divine Name. If we try to go to Krishna directly, overstepping the sadhu, we will never see Krishna’s real form. We will only go down into the garbage of illusion again and again. It is necessary to understand what the Holy Name of Krishna is, and what it is not, if we actually want to chant the Holy Name. From our mundane position we do not understand Krishna, but He can reveal Himself in our hearts if we try to connect with Him with love, affection, chastity, and sincerity through the proper channel of His devotee.'

(17) RECOGNISING DEVOTION
'If we chant the Hare Krishna maha-mantra with the qualities of humility, tolerance, and giving honour to others, we will certainly get a proper result. Mahaprabhu promised this to us, and even Krishna will not be able to check our result because our result will come to us through His devotee’s devotee. Humility, tolerance, and the offering of respect are the essential qualities of a devotee. Everyone must maintain those qualities in their devotional lives. If anyone is successful in practising Mahaprabhu’s procedure, then they will be very, very close to liberation, and after liberation they will see and feel how everything is transcendental and all right, by the will of the Lord.'

Sri Sri Prema-Dhama Deva Stotram (Part Two, chanted on Sundays)
'Very tall, beautiful and infused with divine love, His holy form increases gods’ joy; the lustre of His body, which puts millions of golden lotuses to shame, is worshipped by the Moon; and His intrinsic form is a holy abode of divine pastimes manifest as eternal ever-increasing transcendental ecstatic transformations that spring up as He revels dancing in Sri Krishna-sankirtan – I am singing in praise of this beautiful Lord Sri Gauranga-sundar, a worshippable Deity of divine love.'

'We need transcendental ecstasy. We do not want sadness, sorrow, or inauspiciousness. We always need the opposite. We need something eternal, glorious, and beautiful. There is only one way to get that: through hankering. Hankering gives us the real property in our spiritual lives. [By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
'What we need is yukta-vairagya: we shall take from the store of Krishna to keep ourselves fit and to do service. It is Krishna's account, and if we do not do that, we will be separatists, mayavadis, renunciationists. We must render maximum service to Krishna, so we must take without any hesitation whatever is necessary to make ourselves fit for the service; otherwise, we shall be punishable.'

SPECIAl POETRY: Homage to Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur
‘He is the giver of Sri Guru; he is the giver of scriptures; he is the giver of Gaura’s holy abode; he is the giver of the Name; he is the giver of pure devotion. He is the greatest donor. I forever offer my obeisance to this Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur.’

SPECIAl POETRY: Srimad Bhaktivinod Viraha Dasakam
‘Alas, alas! O Bhaktivinod Thakur, O Supreme Guru! For the past twenty-two years, this earth has been grasped by the misery of deep sadness in unfathomable separation from you. Sri Gaura’s potency personified, you graciously appeared on this planet, being attracted by jiva souls’ sukriti (devotional merit) amassed during many lifetimes.’

"Apart from Srila Raghunath Das Goswami, there were other great personalities who received Sri Nityananda Prabhu’s mercy.

Come to Know and Remember
'If you circumambulate the Lord's holy abode, you will get relief from the endless circumambulation of the material world. You can come there, walk around, but this is only eye-exercise.

Today in the calendar: Gaura Chaturthi. Disappearance of Tridandi-swami Srimad Bhakti Gaurava Giri Maharaj (Sripad Paramananda Vidyaratna Prabhu, a favourite and intimate disciple of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupad).

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj: "We should always check the calendar, and when we see some dates mentioned there, even if we do not know anything about the Vaishnav or events mentioned there, we can at least give 'jay' to them—that also brings some good sukriti, some purification to us. Seeing the calendar and taking devotees' names early in the morning, from the beginning of the day, is very good for all devotees. We must always remember disappearance and appearance days of all Vaishnavs. If we can remember such personalities, such great souls, it will bring great benefit to our spiritual lives."

In honour of Srila Bhakti Gaurava Giri Maharaj (Sri Paramananda Prabhu):

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj remembers:

(1) "Pramananda Prabhu came to Srila Prabhupad as a child. His age was thirteen only when he came to live with Srila Prabhupad. He was a very intimate devotee of Srila Prabhupad. One day, he came to Prabhupad after a walk in Radha Kunda and reported to Prabhupad that the Diwan of Bhaghpur state and the whole of his family were circumambulating Radha Kunda—he and his wife would lie down, place a stone ahead, get up, go forward, and again lie down at the place marked by the stone. Paramananda Prabhu said very ardently, 'They also regard Radharani so much!' Then Prabhupad came out from his inner quarter and said, 'Yes, but their concern for Radharani and our concern for Radharani is quite different. They come to Radharani because She is favourite to Krishna, but our position is the opposite—our interest is Radharani, and we worship Krishna only because He is favourite to Radharani (we have to connect with Krishna only because She likes Him).'"

(2) "One time, a letter came from one devotee with some complaint. Srila Prabhupad asked his servitor, 'Who has told this news to him?' The servitor said, 'Prabhupad, you yourself have written this news to him.' Prabhupad denied it, 'No, no, no. I never wrote this to him!'The servitor explained humbly, 'I remember how you dictated it and I wrote it. You gave the news to him.' Prabhupad denied, 'No, I do not remember it.' Then I [Srila Sridhar Maharaj] spoke—I said, 'Vyasa vetti na vetti va (He who has composed all Vedas may or may not know them).' Prabhupad laughed when he heard it. Paramananda Prabhu was there too, and he said, 'Sridhara sakalam vetti (Sridhar Maharaj knows everything).' I said, 'Paramananda prasadatah. (By the mercy of Paramananda Prabhu).'"

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj remembers:

"Paramananda Prabhu was a very dearmost, intimate disciple of Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur, Prabhupad had given him very much affection. When Paramananda Prabhu came to Srila Guru Maharaj [Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj], Srila Guru Maharaj was always very happy to see him. That Paramananda Prabhu said, 'Maharaj, my only shelter now is your book Sri Sri Prapanna-jivanamritam. I do not read Srimad Bhagavad-gita or Bhagavatam, or anything else, I only read Sri Sri Prapanna-jivanamritam every day. I read a chapter a day, and I read it continuously—when I finish it, I start from the beginning again.'"

‘If Rupa had not assumed a human body in Kali-yuga, who would have opened a door into the chamber of the great ocean of divine love of Vraja? Who else but a swan can drink milk separating it from water? Who else but he can leave everything and worship Vrindavan, composing all these scriptures?’

SPECIAl POETRY: Srimad-Rupa-Gosvami-Prabhur Sochaka (4)
‘Glory to Sri Rupa, an ocean of great ecstasy! Seeing him, coming in touch with him, hearing his ambrosial words fills one with happiness. Very serious, self-controlled and merciful, he is an abode of supreme loving devotion, who has revealed the great jewel of paramour love from the jewel mine of Gauda-desh.’

Grow Spiritually
'Read this book (Upadesh 3) carefully. Many people say they were very happy when they read it. Every year we also do parikramas of Sri Nabadwip Dham, Sri Purusottam Ksetra and Sri Vrindavan Dham – it is necessary to keep all this in your hearts. Even if you have been to these parikramas, you must still come – every year, every time.'

Today in the calendar: Gaura Dasami. Dasahara, Sri Ganga Puja. Appearance of Sri Ganga Mata Goswamini. Disappearance of Srila Baladev Vidyabhusan Prabhu.

In honour of Sri Baladev Vidyabhusan:

Protected Journey [A chapter from Dignity of the Divine Servitor, by His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj.]
"...This is the history of the Govinda-bhasya, and this is how Baladev Vidyabhusana made his commentaries. Since that time Baladev Vidyabhusana, though he was a young man, has been worshipped by the Gaudiya-Vaisnava-sampradaya. His contribution is our wealth."

Instructing Spiritual Masters [A chapter from Sri Guru and His Grace, by His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj.]
"Srila Baladev Vidyabhusan's contribution to the sampradaya is no less important than that of the other great stalwarts in the line. Baladev Vidyabhusan was very akin to the Madhva sampradaya, but when he came in connection with Visvanath Chakravarti Thakur, he showed great interest in Gaudiya–Vaisnavism. He has also commented on the Srimad Bhagavatam and Jiva Goswami's Sat-sandarbha, and that enlightened thought is a valuable contribution to our sampradaya. We cannot dismiss him, he is our Guru."

Sriman Nityananda Prabhu said: "O Jiva, there is no need for a separate commentary on the Brahma-sutra now. The Bhagavatam explains the sutras and is considered the sutras' natural commentary. In time, when there is a need for another commentary, the Sri Govinda-bhasya will be revealed. Sarvabhauma's relative, Gopinath Acharya, heard the Lord's commentary with Sarvabhauma. In time, by the will of the Lord, he will take birth as Baladev Vidyabhusan and conquer Jaipur. There, he will compose a commentary spoken by Sri Govinda, serve the feet of Gauranga, and deliver the souls."

(Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya, chapter 4)

In honour of Sri Ganga Mayi:

When the Lord came to the boundary of Antardwip, He showed Sri Ganga Nagar to Jiva. Nityananda Prabhu said, "Listen Jiva, this is Ganga Nagar. It was established by Maharaj Bhagirath, a forefather of Lord Ramachandra. When the Ganga, who is also known as Bhagirathi, came here, Maharaj Bhagirath went ahead of her blowing a conch. Arriving in Nabadwip Dham, the Ganga stopped, and Maharaj Bhagirath saw that she would not proceed. Overwhelmed with fear, Maharaj Bhagirath retraced his course and came before the Ganga. He stayed in Ganga Nagar and began to perform austerities. Pleased by them, Ganga personally appeared before him. Maharaj Bhagirath said, 'O Mother, if you do not continue, my ancestors will never be delivered.' Ganga said, 'Listen, my child, O heroic Bhagirath! Peacefully stay here for some time. We have come to Nabadwip Dham in the month of Magh. At the end of Phalgun, I will deliver your ancestors. O Bhagirath, I am the water that washes the feet of the Lord. Here in His abode, I will first fulfil my own desires. The full moon day in Phalgun is the birthday of the Lord, and I should perform a rite on that day. I will complete this rite, and then certainly I will go with you. Do not be afraid.' Maharaj Bhagirath resided in Ganga Nagar until the full moon day in Phalgun. Anyone who stays in Ganga Nagar on the full moon day in Phalgun, bathes in the Ganga, fasts, and worships Sri Gauranga crosses over material existence, as do their ancestors. Along with one thousand of their ancestors, they attain Sri Goloka, regardless of how or where they died. O Jiva, the glories of this place are unlimited. Sri Chaitanya danced here many times."

Renunciation of Cowards and Misers
[By Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]
'What we need is yukta-vairagya: we shall take from the store of Krishna to keep ourselves fit and to do service. It is Krishna's account, and if we do not do that, we will be separatists, mayavadis, renunciationists. We must render maximum service to Krishna, so we must take without any hesitation whatever is necessary to make ourselves fit for the service; otherwise, we shall be punishable.'

"Sri Ekadasi" (Sri Sri Prema Vivarta)
"One day, Gaurahari left the Gundicha Temple and sat in the Jagannath Vallabha garden. It was pure Ekadasi, and the Lord spent the whole day and night chanting the Name of Krishna..."

In honour of the forthcoming chida-dahi danda-mahotsav (tomorrow):

"Srila Raghunath Das Goswami brought chipped rice, yogurt, milk, sweetmeats, sugar, bananas and other eatables and placed them all around. Seeing the crowd increasing, Srila Raghunath Das Goswami arranged to get more eatables from other villages. He brought two-four hundred large, round earthen pots and five-seven especially large earthen pots—a brahman began soaking chipped rice in these pots for the satisfaction of Lord Nityananda. The chipped rice was soaked in hot milk in each of the large pots, then a half of the chipped rice was mixed with yogurt, sugar and bananas and the other half was mixed with condensed milk, champa-kola bananas (short, fat ones), then sugar, ghee, and some camphor were added. Everyone was offered two earthen pots. In one was put chipped rice with condensed milk, and in the other chipped rice with yogurt."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Antya-lila, chapter 6)

"Raghunath Das Goswami was very happy. Raghunath Das was rich and he immediately arranged dadhi (yoghurt), chida (flat-rice), milk, ksira, sandesa, rasagulla, mango, banana, and so many other foodstuffs. Everyone honoured all these preparations in clay pots. Raghunath Das fed all the devotees, and not only that, he gave pranami to them all in the form of gold coins."

Traditionally, at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, under the guidance of His Divine Grace, devotees make an offering of soaked chipped rice mixed with a variety of juicy/pulpy seasonal fruit (mango, jackfruit, bananas), a variety of sweets and savouries; also, kitchuri.

"When Raghav Pandit came there and saw the situation, he began to laugh in great surprise. He brought many kinds of food cooked in ghee and offered them to the Lord. He first placed this prasadam before Lord Nityananda and then distributed it among the devotees. Raghav Pandit said to Lord Nityananda, 'O Lord, I have already offered food to the Deity for You, but You are engaged in a festival here, and so the food is lying there at home untouched.' Lord Nityananda replied, 'Let Me eat all this food here during the day, and I shall eat at your home at night. I belong to a community of cowherd boys; therefore, I generally have many cowherd associates with Me. I am happy when we eat together in a picnic like this by the sandy bank of the river.'"

In Honour of Sripad Bhakti Chandan Parvat Maharaj
(45 photographs, 3 Mb)
Sripad Parvat Maharaj was never in the foreground—he never showed to be a great devotee, a great writer, a great speaker, a great singer, or a great anything, but what he did show to this world, besides being adorned with many beautiful devotional qualities, is that whenever and whatever service or order came from his Guru and holy Vaishnavs, he placed it on his head and followed it with heart and soul, with full dedication (along with as a smile, and often a witty joke). For our own purification, bowing down at his holy feet, we are humbly presenting a selection of photographs in the auspicious memory of His Holiness.

All glory to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga

Dear Devotees, Friends, and Well-Wishers,

Please accept my humble obeisance.

With a very saddened heart, I am writing to give the news that our dear and worshippable Sripad Bhakti Chandan Parvat Maharaj left his body today (14 June 2019) early in the morning.

Sripad Bhakti Chandan Parvat Maharaj's service to the Mission and humble, kind-hearted mood is well known to the devotees worldwide. Every year, up until his health deteriorated and did not allow him to come, he would also come here to Kolkata and, tirelessly, single-handedly and very happily roaming the streets and lanes of Kolkata, collect for Sri Gaura Purnima festival, and afterwards assist the festival itself in various ways. We can never forget his affection and service. Srila Gurupadpadma, Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, said, "Dhrstam dhrstam punar api punas chandanam charu-gandham: the more you rub chandan, the more auspicious fragrance it emanates." Similarly, we must admit that the more we remember the glories of Sripad Bhakti Chandan Parvat Maharaj, the more auspiciousness will come to our lives.

I pray that, remembering Sripad B.Ch. Parvat Maharaj's mood and service, devotees will fill the void created by his disappearance from our vision and try to serve the Mission of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math with ever stronger dedication.

Your faithful servant,

Swami B. N. Acharya

He brought two-four hundred large, round earthen pots and five-seven especially large earthen pots—a brahmana began soaking chipped rice in these pots for the satisfaction of Lord Nityananda.

(The Divine Pastimes of Sri Nityananda Prabhu,
Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj)

I belong to a community of cowherd boys, and therefore I generally have many cowherd associates with Me. I am happy when we eat together in a picnic like this by the sandy bank of the river.'"

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Antya-lila, chapter 6)

(17) Deep Hankering for Darshan
‘Only fortunate souls can do this parikrama of Lord Jagannath’s abode and come to take darshan of Lord Jagannath’s chariot in Sri Puri Dham. Those who have seen Lord Jagannath’s chariot will not have to be born again. So, everybody should take darshan of Lord Jagannath’s chariot, but it is necessary to have fortune to do that – the problem is that we do not have the eyes to see Lord Jagannath.’

‘When Raghunath Das heard that Rupa and Sanatan had gone to Vrindavan, he refused from all rights to his estate and the comforts of a happy life like that of Lord Indra and went to Mahaprabhu.’

Heartfelt Service
'"What makes my gurudev happy?" If you think like this when you do service, then you yourselves will feel happy because you will feel that your guru's happiness is your happiness: "If gurudev is happy, then I am happy; and if gurudev is not pleased, then there is no point in my being pleased." Always remember this.'

(18) About Sri Alarnath
‘On the shore of the ocean, about sixteen miles to the east of Sri Purusottam Dham, there is a beautiful ancient town called Brahmagiri, or Alarnath. Because Lord Brahma worshipped Lord Vishnu here in Satya-yuga, the place became known as Brahmagiri. In the Tamil language they call devotees alowar or alabar, so the town’s other name Alarnath means "the Lord of devotees.’

Far and Near
'You do not have to come close – if you offer your obeisance from far, it is the same. If you come to your guru, you can offer him your obeisance from afar, in whichever direction he is. Today in the calendar: Purnima. Snan Yatra (bathing) of Sri Jagannathdev. Disappearance of Srila Mukunda Datta. Disappearance of Srila Sridhar Pandit. Manifestation anniversary of Sri Sri Parama Karuna Nitai Gaurachandra Prabhu in Caracas, Venezuela.

In honour of Sri Mukunda Datta Prabhu:

In honour of Sri Sridhar Pandit Prabhu:

(At Sri Sridhar Angan, during Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama, 2020)

"Mahaprabhu went there—He would always take bananas from Sridhar Prabhu's house. Sridhar Prabhu would tell Mahaprabhu, "Are there no other shops here? Why do You always come here and take things from Me forcefully? What is this? Some time, Nimai went to Sridhar Pandit's house to ask for some water, but Sridhar Pandit did not have a proper glass—there was a hole in it; but Nimai took water from it. Another time, Mahaprabhu took thor mocha [banana stem, banana flower] from him. It was His favourite, and He would play with Sridhar Pandit—He would take that thor, but Sridhar Pandit would not want to give it. Nimai would pull it from Sridhar Pandit's hands, and because thor is slippery, sometimes Sridhar Pandit would lose it and fall down."

(Srila B.N. Acharya Maharaj)

At Sri Sridhar Angan (From Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya-mukta-mala)
"Why did Sriman Nityananda Prabhu say that Sridhar Pandit was a great recipient of Mahaprabhu's mercy? You must know who Sridhar Pandit was, and you must always remember and keep his mood in your heart."

Having passed through Tantuvaya Gram and seeing the cottage of Kholavecha Sridhar, Nityananda Prabhu said, "'Here, Sri Gauranga chanted, rested, and blessed the devotees. This place thus became known as Visram Sthan. You may rest here in Sridhar's cottage.' When Sridhar heard of Nityananda Prabhu's arrival, he came, prostrated himself, and worshipped the Lord. He said, 'O Lord, be most merciful to this servant and rest here. This is my request.' Nityananda Prabhu replied, 'You are very fortunate: Lord Gauranga has bestowed His mercy upon you. Today, we will rest here.' Hearing this, Sridhar was satisfied. With great care, Sridhar collected suitable ingredients and engaged a Vaisnava brahman to cook. Once Nitai and Srivas had been served, Sri Jiva joyfully took their prasad. Sridhar laid Nityananda on a bed, and then he and his family massaged the Lord's feet.'"

(Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya, chapter 6)

"Late at night [on the eve of Nimai Pandit's leaving Nabadwip], one devotee named Kholavecha Sridhar arrived. He used to make trade on the plantain tree and its fruit. He would sell the fruit, ripe or green, and the big leaves which are used as plates. Sometimes Nimai would pay him less for his fruits than what they were worth, and sometimes He would snatch the best fruits from him. Sridhar came to see Him late at night to offer Him a choice lau (bottle gourd). And Nimai thought, "I have spent almost My whole life snatching so many things from him, and now, on this last night he has brought this wonderful lau. I can't resist." He asked Sacidevi, "Mother, Sridhara has given me this lau. Please think of how it can be prepared." At bedtime, someone came with some milk. Nimai said, "Mother, with this milk and this lau, please prepare some sweet-rice." So Sacidevi prepared some lau sweet-rice: lau boiled with milk, rice and sugar."

Sripad Risabhdev Prabhu: A Miracle Personality
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj is remembering the character and disappearance of Sripad Risabhdev Prabhu: "I have seen so many miracles in my life, and Risabhdev Prabhu is also one kind of a miracle personality. If you see what your scriptures say (they show so many rules and regulations) and if you see Risabhdev Prabhu's case, you will not be able to harmonise it."

Sripad Risabhdev Prabhu's Message
"Dive deep, do not be satisfied with the surface understanding. It is necessary for us to go to the core, and this is beyond all visual, mental, and objective understanding... In honour of Sri Syamananda Prabhu:

"Srinivas Acharya, Narottam Das Thakur, and Shyamananda Prabhu started for Vrindavan to have the darshan of Srila Rupa Goswami, Srila Sanatan Goswami, Srila Gopala Bhatta Goswami, Srila Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami and others who were there.

"When they were only a few miles away from Mathura, they heard that Sanatan Goswami had passed away. People were saying that that great Sanatan Goswami who was the prime minister and who had captured all people in the whole of Vrindavan within his heart—that Sanatan had passed away, a great disaster for the country. What to do then? Rupa, Raghunath, Jiva and Gopala Bhatta were still living, so Srinivas, Narottam, and Shyamananda dragged somehow on.

When they reached Mathura, they heard that Srila Rupa Goswami had left the night before that. Sanatana left on an ashari purnima, and Srila Rupa Goswami left after that on next dvadasi. They thought, "What hopeless and cursed souls we are! We have come so near, yet we could not see those two generals of Mahaprabhu!" Mahaprabhu sent two of his generals to Vrindavan to carry out His orders and establish the kingdom of the Gaudiya Vaishnavs there... So, they dragged their bodies to Vrindavan and came to Govinda Mandir. When they reached it, they found that an evening aroti was going on there in a very great splendour. There was a great crowd there—Srila Rupa Goswami had just passed away, so with that feeling of high bereavement, everybody was chanting his name madly. Srinivas, Narottam, and Shyamananda Prabhu were there, but Srinivas Acharya could not stand that sort of sentimental wave—he was standing aside and he fainted. When he regained his consciousness, he saw Srila Jiva Goswami with some of his followers...

In this way, Srinivas Acharya, Narottam Das Thakur, and Shyamananda Prabhu stayed in Vrindavan for one year—Srinivas Acharya took initiation from Gopala Bhatta, Narottam Thakur from Lokanath Goswami, and Shyamananda Prabhu from Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu..."

(Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj)

"Sri Gauri Das Pandit is one of the twelve cowherd friends of Krishna in Vrindavan. Shyamananda Prabhu was his disciple and followed him in the sakhya-bhav (transcendental mood of friendship with the Lord), however when he later entered the association of Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu, who was a follower of Sri Rupa Goswami, he exhibited madhura-bhav (transcendental mood of paramour relationship with the Lord). Shyamananda Prabhu was promoted to the manjari group by the mercy of Lalita Devi. Later, Shyamananda Prabhu went to preach with Srila Narottam Das Thakur and Srila Srinivas Acharya. Srila Narottam Das Thakur preached in Bangladesh, Srila Srinivas Acharya Prabhu preached in the north, and Srila Shyamananda Prabhu preached in Midnapore. They preached and protected our line, Rupa Goswami's line, the main conception."
